2016? Really?

The year 2016 may not go down in history as the best year the world has seen.

But in the world of Campaignion, it's actually been pretty great. We're always asking our clients what we can improve and create to increase the impact of their campaigning and fundraising. Using this information, we built and rolled out a whole host of powerful new features and functionality. Here's our 2016 highlights!

Emailing your MP has never been easier

Earlier this year we spent a lot of time working on the new tools for email to target. Campaignion now allows you to set up actions targetting MPs, MEPs, Devolved Governments and even Councils.

In addition to this new action type and whole host of datasets, we've built in functionality that allows you to segment and target, so supporters can send emails tailored to the party or position of their representative. You can now also pinpoint exclude a target(s) from an email campaign entirely, for example supportive politicians.

Contacting the UK Prime Minister

Contacting the Prime Minister in the UK can be a little tricky. Unlike other Members of Parliament, the Prime Minister doesn't have a simple email address where they can be contacted. Instead they must be contacted through a really ugly form on the Number 10 website. This year we designed and beta-tested a new type of action that allowed users to directly contact David Cameron, and later Theresa May, through the client's website, in a beautiful and user-friendly form with all of the sharing and donation integrations you'd expect from Campaignion.

Here is an example of an action by CARE International UK.

Encouraging follow-on actions

We made it even easier for users to take another action straight after the first. Now, whatever data users put into the first action (name, email, etc) will automatically prepopulate the next form. This means users won't have to re-enter their details to make a donation, forward an email to a friend or take part in any other way you can imagine.

Of course you can also pre-populate forms using "URL parameters" (which are little bits of data you can add to a URL) so supporters landing on your page will already be recognised by the system.

Collecting and sharing comments

Recent supporters example

The Campaignion social proof tools are now more powerful than ever with the addition of a comments block. This allows you to collect comments from supporters when they take action. Not only can these be an important part of the action itself (you could even automatically add them into the template email), but they can easily be displayed on your action landing page, with just the click of a button. This helps to demonstrate the passion and dedication of your supporters and encourage others to make similar contributions.

We also created a special piece of functionality that allowed Campaignion client Friends of the Earth Germany (BUND) to live moderate and display comments on a huge screen outside their target's office

Even more integrations

We've built integrations for Campaignion with other tools and services including:

  • DotMailer, Charity Email (Email Marketing)
  • Optivo (Email Marketing)
  • PayOne (Payment Gateway)

And we've implemented a Webhooks API that makes it simple for you to get data out of Campaignion in real-time to feed into analytics tools, email senders, your supporter database or anywhere else!

Small, but important

Last but not least, we've added a currency option on donation forms which allows you to accept payments in multiple currencies from all over the world!

The latest update of our postcode field has built-in support for country validation when possible. This is a good improvement for usability as well as data quality.

Meet our new clients

This year we've had the pleasure to start working with a wide range of wonderful organisations.

Take Friends of the Earth Germany (BUND) as an example. Since they started using Campaignion in February 2016 more than 200.000 people have taken action as part of their campaigns. We also helped them customise the platform so they can moderate and show supporter comments on massive screens as part of their PR stunts.

Friends of the Earth England & Wales started using the platform this fall and have also engaged more than 100.000 supporters already. With their help we rolled out the first version of the Campaignion API which means clients can now take out all data that Campaignion collects in real time (via webhoooks).

CARE International UK started using Campaignion for engagement and online fundraising and in 2016 they've already converted more than 1,300 supporters to make a donation via our platform. On top of that they have collected over 2,000 phone numbers for telemarketing.
